TIDEPLAY

A new approach to Early Childhood documentation

TidePlay brings observation, learning analysis, planning, reflection and compliance evidence together in one connected workflow — designed specifically for Australian Early Childhood educators.

Built around the way educators actually work, not simply around the documents they need to produce.

Investigating ramps · Tuesday morning

Draft

OBSERVATION

What Liam did · recorded evidence

Liam built a ramp using cardboard and sticky tape, placing wooden blocks underneath to raise its height. He tested which cars rolled the furthest, adjusting the ramp’s height by adding more blocks. When parts of the ramp needed repairing, Liam patched them up and added more cardboard to extend its length.

Liam shared his ramp with his peers, and together they continued building, modifying and testing their construction.

LEARNING ANALYSIS

What Liam is learning · educator interpretation

Liam demonstrated problem-solving, persistence and emerging engineering thinking as he designed, tested and modified his ramp. By adding blocks to change its height and extending its length with additional cardboard, he explored how changes to the ramp’s structure influenced the movement of the cars.

Liam responded to challenges by repairing sections of the ramp and refining his design, demonstrating a willingness to experiment, evaluate results and try different solutions. His repeated testing provided opportunities to explore cause and effect, movement, height and distance through hands-on investigation.

As Liam shared his construction with peers, the experience developed into collaborative learning. Together, the children continued to build, test and modify the ramp, creating opportunities to exchange ideas, negotiate decisions and contribute to a shared project.

Outcome 4 · Children are confident and involved learners

Liam demonstrated persistence, curiosity and problem-solving as he tested his ramp, adjusted its height, repaired damaged sections and extended its length. His repeated experimentation suggests developing understandings of cause and effect, spatial relationships and how modifying materials can influence an outcome.

Outcome 5 · Children are effective communicators

Liam shared his construction with peers, and together they continued to develop and test their ideas. This collaborative experience provided opportunities to communicate, exchange ideas and coordinate their contributions towards a shared goal. Further observation of their conversations and interactions could help identify the specific communication skills demonstrated.

THE PROBLEM

Early Childhood documentation should support learning — not get in the way of it.

Observation, analysis, planning, reflection and evidence of quality each depend on the one before. In many services, though, they live in different places:

Linking a single observation to the analysis it prompted, the plan it shaped and the evidence it provides is left to the educator to piece together — usually after the fact.

THE TIDEPLAY APPROACH

One connected learning workflow

Each stage carries into the next, so the work an educator has already done is there when they need it — not started again in a separate document.

01

Observe

Capture what you notice in the moment.

02

Analyse

Understand the learning behind it.

03

Plan

Decide what comes next, on purpose.

04

Implement

Bring the experiences to life with children.

05

Reflect

Look back, and let it shape what you notice next.

AI assists. Educators decide.

WHAT TIDEPLAY BRINGS TOGETHER

The everyday tools behind the workflow

From a note taken in the classroom to evidence gathered for Assessment & Rating, these are the places educators will work in TidePlay.

DOCUMENTING AND PLANNING

Observations

Capture meaningful observations and use AI to help transform educator notes into thoughtful documentation.

Observation Library

Find and revisit past observations, so earlier evidence stays connected to new learning.

Learning Analysis

Move beyond describing what happened to understanding the learning taking place.

Planning & Programming

Connect children’s learning to intentional planning and future experiences.

Monthly Program

Bring planned experiences together into a clear monthly program, grounded in children’s interests and learning.

Learning Journey

See learning and development patterns over time.

OVER TIME, AND WITH FAMILIES

Daily Records

Record daily care routines, such as sleep, meals and toileting, in one consistent place.

Daily Snapshots

Share concise daily experiences and moments with families.

Family Communication

Prepare messages and summaries that keep families informed about their child’s day and learning.

Monthly Highlights – Newsletter

Draw the month’s key moments and learning together into a newsletter for families.

QUALITY AND EVIDENCE

Incident Reports

Document incidents clearly and consistently, so records are complete and ready for follow-up.

Strategic Inclusion Plans (SIP)

Plan and record the inclusion strategies that support every child’s participation.

Compliance & Quality

Help educators gather and connect evidence for quality improvement and Assessment & Rating.

Evidence Collector

Bring relevant documentation and evidence together when needed.

Critical Reflection

Support meaningful reflection on practice and the program.

DESIGNED FOR AUSTRALIAN ECEC

Designed for Australian Early Childhood Education

TidePlay is designed around the Australian Early Childhood environment, the National Quality Standard (NQS) and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) — its practices, principles and learning outcomes, and the quality expectations educators work with every day.

TidePlay is an independent product. It is not approved by, endorsed by or affiliated with ACECQA or the Australian Government.

Belonging, Being and Becoming

THE DIFFERENCE

Not another place to store paperwork.

TidePlay is designed around the learning cycle and educational practice first — rather than simply digitising existing paperwork. It helps educators move naturally from...

what they notice what it means what comes next

OUR APPROACH TO AI

Thoughtful AI. Educator-led practice.

TidePlay uses AI to reduce repetitive documentation work and help educators uncover meaningful learning — while keeping professional judgement where it belongs: with the educator.

EDUCATOR’S NOTE

Original note · as recorded

Mia and Emma took their dolls for a walk around the playground in prams. They stopped along the way to have a picnic.

SUGGESTED DRAFT · AI-assisted interpretation

Mia and Emma engaged in imaginative play as they took their dolls for a walk around the playground and stopped for a picnic. Their play involved creating a shared scenario around caring for their dolls and incorporating familiar everyday experiences into their play.

This experience provided opportunities for the children to develop and extend their imaginative ideas together.

To explore further: the note doesn’t record what Mia and Emma said or how they shaped the scenario together. Further observation of their language and the roles they took on could clarify the learning taking place.
